Stud: Olivier Vernon

It would have been easy to name the entire starting Browns defensive front as studs considering they dominated the Tampa Bay offensive line when they were on the field.

But Olivier Vernon was on the field for the most snaps of the entire unit, and he continued his dominance the entire time he was on the field, creating plenty of problems for Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston.

More from Browns News

Vernon made four total tackles, including two sacks and two tackles for loss. He also was credited with three quarterback hits.

The Browns pass rush showed up as soon as they took the field and gave the Tampa Bay first-team offense no room to operate. Vernon was right in the thick of it, showing off his combination of speed and power to get in the backfield.

Cleveland’s defensive front is able to do many things to get in the backfield, including stunts and twists, with Vernon registering one of his sacks off a stunt. All four starting linemen are versatile and can move around the line, making it hard for the offensive line to have the matchups they want.

Vernon’s presence is not only going to help Myles Garrett have some more freedom on the other end of the line, but he will improve the entire defense in general. Vernon gave a glimpse of how dominant of a pass rusher he could be in 2019.
