Stud: Austin Seibert

The Browns gave Greg Joseph the night off and let Austin Seibert have a game to himself in order to help sort out the kicking competition. And Seibert had the exact night he needed to help himself stand out in the competition.

Seibert was responsible for all 12 of the Browns points on Friday night, making all four field goals he attempted. His longest of the night came from 54 yards, which he put right down the middle with plenty of extra leg.

But the best part of Seibert’s night was being consistent, no matter the distance, which has been his issue since the start of training camp. The Browns know Seibert has a huge leg, but the biggest question is if he can consistently hit kicks, as he has missed several 40+ yard kicks during camp.

Seibert hit his other kicks from 30, 35, and 36 yards. They may be chip shots, but there were no concerns that Seibert was going to miss the kicks once the ball was in the air.

Before taking the field on Friday night, there was good reason to believe that Seibert was behind in the kicking competition. But after his performance Friday night, there is a good reason to believe he is at least evened the competition out. If Joseph has the same opportunity next week that Seibert had Friday and Joseph struggles, the job could end up being Seibert’s.
