Stud: Joe Schobert

Defense was the story of Friday night’s game, and there were several Browns who were making plays. But one player who seemed to be always around the football was Joe Schobert, as he made several plays when he was in the game.

Schobert was all over the field against the Buccaneers, making plays in coverage as well as getting in the backfield. The linebacker finished the night with five tackles, including two tackles for loss, one quarterback hit, and one pass defensed. He also drew a holding penalty after nearly getting to the quarterback for a sack.

His ability in pass coverage is well-known and is extremely reliable when in coverage. But one of his biggest issues is finishing tackles. However, Schobert did not let any Buccaneers out of his grasp Friday night, and did not let the offense gain any more yards than they already did.

Also, his ability to get in the backfield with ease was a great sign. With the defensive line taking up multiple blockers, Schobert showed he can generate pressure and force the quarterback to move out of the pocket.

If Schobert can be as reliable of a tackler as he was Friday night, he can be a big reason why the Browns defense improves in 2019. And his strong performance also highlighted how well the defensive line played as well.
