Tight End (3): David Njoku, Demetrius Harris, Pharaoh Brown

This season, the Browns have three offensive players who will start on the suspended list. The first is Kareem Hunt, who will miss eight games. The second is Antonio Callaway who will sit out four. And the third is tight end Rico Gathers, who was suspended one game by the NFL for an arrest last year while he was with the Dallas Cowboys.

Gathers is a former basketball player who stands out due to his size and could find his way to the roster once his suspension is over. They do at least get a week to decide as he won’t count as a roster spot for the first game.

His hopes to make the team lie in proving he has more upside than Seth DeValve and Pharaoh Brown. Should he do that, one of those players could be let go once the former Baylor Bear is reinstated. Right now, Brown has the edge to that final spot but that’s merely a guess. They could go either way there.

What we do know for sure is that David Njoku will be the No. 1 tight end. He was challenged by general manager John Dorsey to improve as a blocker, but the third-year player is a weapon in the passing game, evidenced by his 56 receptions for 639 yards and four touchdowns a season ago.

Behind him is Demetrius Harris, who rejoins Dorsey as they were both in Kansas City at the same time. Harris has been on the field a lot this preseason but hasn’t flashed much. He will likely be more of an extra blocker, which is perfectly fine in this offense.
