Cleveland Browns studs and duds from Preseason Week 4 vs. Lions
By Randy Gurzi
Stud: Devaroe Lawrence
Devaroe Lawrence has had a remarkable preseason and he continued it again in their game against Detroit. On the first defensive snap of the game, Lawrence broke through the line and sacked Tom Savage. The very next play was a three-yard loss as fellow defensive lineman Daniel Ekuale tackled running back Mark Thompson, which set up a third-and-19.
On that play, Lawrence again stepped up as he got into Savage’s face as he tried to throw the ball. He completed that throw to tight end Isaac Nauta, but that only gained five yards. Had Savage been able to survey the field longer, he may have found something to work with. Lawrence made sure that didn’t happen by getting into his face so quickly.
Later in the first half, Detroit decided after the two-minute warning to take things slowly. They were running the ball and seemed as though they were ready to go to the half 3-2. Cleveland called a timeout as they wanted to run a two-minute warning and Lawrence made sure they would get the opportunity.
He busted through the line once again on a third-and-eight and nearly sacked Savage. The veteran quarterback wisely rolled to his right and chucked the ball out of bounds, which led to the Lions punting the ball away.
