Dwayne Allen – Tight End

The Cleveland Browns tight end room is one of the weakest position groups on the entire roster and should be one of the areas the team takes a look at before the regular season. Although Dwayne Allen is not subject to waivers and can sign with any team, he is a player who fits what the Browns need at tight end.

Allen spent the 2018 season with the New England Patriots, but caught only three passes for 27 yards in 13 games. In his two years with the Patriots, New England rarely used him as a receiver. But in his last season with the Colts in 2016, he caught 35 receptions for 406 yards and six touchdowns.

Even though he was hardly used as a receiver with the Patriots, he was a vital member of their offense because of his blocking abilities. He is an extremely physical blocker and is one of the more effective blocking tight ends in the NFL.

The Browns need a tight end who can excel as a blocker. David Njoku’s struggles as a blocker are well known, so the Browns need their No. 2 tight end to be a solid run blocker. Demetrius Harris was a solid blocking tight end in 2018 and should hold his own doing so. But Harris struggled during the preseason, leading to concerns about him being the Browns No. 2 tight end.

Allen is recovering from offseason knee surgery and he may take some time before signing with his next team. But when he decides if he wants to continue playing and begins looking for his next team, the Browns should take a look at adding his services.
