Studs and duds from the Cleveland Browns crushing loss to Titans
By Dan Justik
Stud: Myles Garrett
Myles Garrett was one of the biggest play-makers on the Browns defense on Sunday, despite facing plenty of extra attention from Tennessee’s offensive game plan. The Titans made sure they knew where Garrett was at early on, which kept the third-year defensive end from making too many plays.
Tennessee helped out left tackle Dennis Kelly by chipping Garrett in a variety of ways, including using their wide receivers for chips out of bunch formations. They would also bring left guard Rodger Saffold over to help out as well.
However, the Titans could only limit Garrett so much before he would find a way to get in the backfield and create some mayhem. Garrett finished the game with five total tackles, including two sacks and two quarterback hits.
But even when Garrett was unable to get to the quarterback himself, his presence helped others get in the backfield. On a key third down in the first quarter, the Browns moved Garrett to the left side of the defensive line, switching with Olivier Vernon. It led to Vernon easily generating pressure, forcing Marcus Mariota to run, while Garrett drew a holding penalty.
Despite playing well, Garrett also made the mistake of drawing a personal foul on Sunday after open-hand punching a Titans player. Even after being a part of the 18 penalties, Garrett was still one of the best Browns on Sunday.
