Dud: Baker Mayfield

Baker Mayfield has not been the same quarterback he was during the final stretch of last season, and it is quite concerning. He is not showing much confidence and is struggling to operate in the pocket.

Too often against the Rams Mayfield was bailing out of a clean pocket and ran himself into trouble. Despite having a fairly clean pocket, Mayfield attempted to scramble laterally and put himself into the arms of a Rams defender several times. He had chances to step up in the pocket and deliver throws, but instead chose to scramble.

When Mayfield stepped up into the pocket, he was delivering lasers to the Browns receivers, and the receivers were able to make plays. But with Mayfield bailing out of the pocket, he is not giving his receivers chances to make plays. There is pressure being leaked from the Browns offensive line, but Mayfield has struggled to feel the pressure and get rid of the ball when he needs to.

The Browns returned to their up-tempo offense at some points during the game, and Mayfield looked very comfortable operating that offense. He was getting the ball out quickly and accurately, and it put the Browns in favorable situations.

Mayfield finished the game completing only 50 percent of his passes, going 18-36 for 195 yards, one touchdown and one interception, for a passer rating of 64.0. He was sacked three times for 20 yards.

Defensive coordinators have tape on Mayfield and know his deficiencies. Now it is time for Mayfield to make the adjustments and find holes in the defensive game plans.

Cleveland needs Mayfield to be confident when operating the offense and helping his weapons make plays. But right now, Mayfield not being comfortable in the offense is a problem and compounding the issues for the entire unit.
