The Ricky Seals-Jones Game

Odell Beckham Jr. works in mysterious ways. Despite having no catches in the first half, the LSU product’s mere presence opened things up for the Browns’ offense in Week 4. In the passing game, that presence would open up opportunities for two more of Baker Mayfield’s targets: wide receiver Jarvis Landry and tight end Ricky Seals-Jones.

Landry looked like the star the Browns traded for during the 2017-2018 offseason. With multiple catches during the game to help the Browns along on offense, Landry’s shovel pass during the third quarter was a momentum tipping point for Cleveland, as it led to Nick Chubb’s second touchdown of the day. But Landry’s impact was overshadowed by Ricky Seals-Jones.

Filling in for David Njoku while he heals up, Seals-Jones was fantastic for Baker Mayfield and the Browns’ offense during Week 4. Mayfield’s first passing touchdown of the game was to a wide-open Seals-Jones, and he found the former Texas A&M wide receiver wide open once more for a huge gain early in the second half. Despite Beckham Jr.’s lack of impact, Seals-Jones reaped the rewards from his presence.

Seals-Jones should see a heavier share for the Browns’ offense in Week 5, when Cleveland takes on the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football.
