For the second week in a row, the Cleveland Browns secondary was without the majority of their starters. Safety Morgan Burnett and cornerbacks Greedy Williams and Denzel Ward were all sidelined once again with injuries. Last week, they were without these players as well as Damarious Randall and somehow held their own against the high-powered Los Angeles Rams offense.

This week, they were facing the Ravens who have had their share of success through the air in the first three weeks of the season. And just as they did the week prior, the backups were up to the task.

Cleveland held the big-name players in check as Marquise Brown had just 22 yards on four receptions and Mark Andrews finished with 31 yards. Andrews did score a touchdown but he didn’t do the kind of damage he’s capable of.

At the end of the game, the Ravens got some garbage-time yards, such as the 50-yard touchdown from Willie Snead — who led the team in yardage with 61 — but overall, this was a great performance by the Cleveland D.

Much of that credit needs to go to defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, who has been nothing short of phenomenal over the past two weeks. He had a great plan to keep the Ravens off-balance and the players executed it to perfection.

As long as the offense continues to gel, this Browns team can go head-to-head with anyone thanks to the way Wilks and his defense can get the job done.
