Cleveland Browns 7-round mock draft after 1st quarter of the season
By Randy Gurzi
The Browns are strong at wide receiver with Odell Beckham, Jr., Jarvis Landry, Antonio Callaway, Taywan Taylor, and Rashard Higgins all on the roster. That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t continue to add depth, especially considering Higgins is set to be a free agent next season.
While Higgins has developed into a great route runner, he’s been injured for part of each of the past two seasons. Unfortunately, durability is far too important to ignore so there’s a chance John Dorsey allows the fan-favorite to walk in the offseason.
In order to replace him and give the Browns a player with some size on the outside, they use the first of their two picks in Round 4 to land Bryan Edwards from South Carolina. Edwards best trait is his frame as he’s well-built 6-foot-3, 215-pound wideout.
Edwards is good after the catch as he’s able to break tackles and can really take it to some of the undersized cornerbacks. In his career, Edwards has 190 receptions for 2,577 yards and 19 touchdowns — numbers that could be even better if the Gamecocks would have had better consistency under center.
On top of his work as a receiver, Edwards has returned a few punts as well for South Carolina. He has yet to break a big one but the more you can do, the better your chances are in the NFL.
