Jarvis Landry clears concussion protocol, offense primed for explosion
By Leon West
The time has come… kind of. The Cleveland Browns will have their entire host of wide receivers this Monday night versus the San Francisco 49ers after Jarvis Landry cleared concussion protocol.
The Cleveland Browns have been without Antonio Callaway through the first four weeks as he served a suspension and without Rashad Higgins the previous three games as he battled a knee injury.
Both are expected to make a return against the 49ers, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Not only will they return, but Jarvis Landry will be on the field as Mary Kay Cabot reports he’s cleared the league’s concussion protocol.
This will mark the first time this season that Baker Mayfield has had his full arsenal of receivers at his disposal. The Browns are still expecting to get tight end David Njoku back from IR at some point this season, and Kareem Hunt will make his debut in Week 10 versus the Buffalo Bills.
Their additions should make the Browns almost impossible to stop.
Mayfield has struggled at times this season but seemed to find a groove against the Baltimore Ravens in large part thanks to Landry’s 167 receiving yards and the running game finding its stride in a big way: 193 yards, four touchdowns, and 6.7 yards per carry.
Head coach Freddie Kitchens and Mayfield stressed all week that winning one on one matchups is vital in their offensive scheme.
With a now healthy WR core and a potential emergence of a tight end that can stretch the field in the absence of Njoku with Ricky Seals-Jones, the Browns passing game has everything it needs to click on all cylinders and win those coveted one on one matchups.
