What about Ward and Greedy?

Now, this is a question that will be answered prior to the game, but it’s a question that needs answered none the less. Will Denzel Ward and/or Greedy Williams make their return this week?

Both young corners have missed the last three games, and both are nursing hamstring injuries. Conventional wisdom would say that if their backups were playing well and with the bye week coming up for the Browns in week 7, you would just sit them out so they could return fresh after the bye.

For the first two weeks the young cornerback duo sat out, the backups did an exemplary job in their absence. However, against the 49ers the tandem of T.J. Carrie and Terrance Mitchell both played below average in coverage. Both Carrie and Mitchell are very solid depth pieces, but as it often does, overexposure leads to being exposed in the NFL the majority of the time.

Getting Ward or Williams back would be a huge boost for the Browns defense. Russell Wilson is coming into this game completing just over 73% of his passes. It’s hard to imagine anything different going down this Sunday with your best coverage defenders sitting on the sideline.

Hamstring injuries are tricky and managing them is a full-time job for the training staff. Obviously, the Browns aren’t going to put either Ward or Williams out on the field if they are not good enough to go. But if either Ward or Williams, or in a perfect world; both, are healthy enough to give it a go it would put the Browns defense at full strength.
