Can they get OBJ rolling?

Odell Beckham Jr. is off to the slowest start of his six-year NFL career. Which is a testament to how good he’s truly been since entering the league considering he had a monster game in week two versus the New York Jets.

Beckham has 23 receptions for 335 yards and one touchdown on the season thus far. However, if you were to remove the Jets game from the equation, the polarizing receiver only has 17 catches for 174 yards and zero touchdowns. Now those numbers would be fine if Beckham was an average receiver.

The problem is, Beckham is anything but average. The fact that he is one of the premier playmakers in all of the NFL makes those numbers unacceptable. Even if you don’t exclude the Jets game, he isn’t making the impact a player of his caliber should be.

There are many reasons that could be keeping the Browns from utilizing Beckham’s full potential. It could be just a lack of chemistry between Beckham and Baker Mayfield. If that turns out to be the case, then the two maligned stars have to get that hammered out asap.

Another reason for the lack of production could be play-calling. Beckham has excelled at slants and Nine routes in his career, and neither has been a staple of what the Browns have been doing on offense so far. Playing to your playmakers’ strengths is the primary job of the play-caller.

Freddie Kitchens has to figure out a way to get the most out of Beckham while remaining in the structure of the offense. Beckham possesses a generational talent and it would be a shame if the first-year head coach was unable to figure out how to tap into it.
