Can he be dangerous again?

Baker Mayfield has not had the success that he was expected to have in 2019. Five games into his second year as the signal-caller of Browns, the young quarterback has struggled mightily at times. Mayfield needs to show the resolve and determination that he played with as a rookie and prove he can raise the level of play of everyone around him.

There is a litany of factors that are contributing to Mayfield’s struggles this season. First and foremost, the play of the offensive line has been substantially poor. Also, the play-calling has been abysmal as have been the game plans. You could even site things like the dreaded ‘Sophmore slump’ or even ‘the hype’ for Mayfield’s subpar performance this year.

The bottom line is, Mayfield needs to be better. He has to raise his level of play or this team will not have the success that the talent on the roster dictates that it should. Other quarterbacks deal with the same kind of issues but are able to rise above to make the plays that need to be made.

Mayfield has been the 11th most pressured quarterback in the NFL this season and he has the worst quarterback rating in the league when being pressured. Expect defensive coordinators to make him one of the most pressured quarterbacks in the league until he proves he can make defenses pay.

Whatever needs to happen for Mayfield to find his groove needs to happen in short order or this season is in danger of slipping away. If the same moxie-less inaccurate Baker Mayfield that played on Monday night shows up this week, there is little hope for a Browns victory.
