Cleveland Browns: 5 Seahawks to watch against the Browns

Account for Jadeveon Clowney
The Browns need to account for Jadeveon Clowney. The former number one overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans, Clowney’s career got off to a rough start. He was injured most of his first two seasons. Once he got healthy he showed why he was the first overall pick. Earlier this year he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks where he is playing out his fifth-year option.
Clowney’s best attribute is rushing the passer. While in Houston he was paired with J.J. Watt. In Seattle, he has been able to shine on his own. Clowney’s size and speed make him a freak of nature. He can get after the quarterback quickly and effectively. But pass rushing is not all he can do. He is also good against the run. He sets the edge and makes it difficult for teams to establish the run.
The Browns must account for Clowney on every play. They need to audible runs away from him. In the passing game, they need to have a tight end or running back help out whatever offensive tackle draws the unfortunate assignment. If left to his own devices, Clowney could wreck the game against the Browns.
If the Browns can establish the run and throw play-action off the run, then Clowney’s contribution could be minimized. If not, it will be a long day for the Browns.
