Tyler Lockett must be shut down

The wide receiver group of the Seahawks is very good. The past few years they have been investing draft picks into the wide receiver room. They are looking to building a very fast group that can get open off play action.

One of Russell Wilson’s favorite targets is Tyler Lockett. Lockett plays primarily out of the slot position. He has been on the receiving end of many fantastic plays like the often replayed catch against the Los Angeles Rams. The Seahawks offense likes to establish the run and throw off play-action. Those throws off play-action tend to target the tight end (see above) or Lockett in the slot.

Wilson likes to throw over the middle attacking the nickel corner or safety coming up in run support. Combine this approach with the block then route concepts with the tight ends and the Browns will need to be disciplined in their approach to the running game.

Adding to the mix is rookie D.K. Metcalf. Metcalf is starting to emerge as a legitimate target on his own. Thus, if the Browns start to pay too much attention to the running game, then Metcalf will take the top off as he did in last week’s game.

Pass defense this week will be all about discipline in the defensive secondary. With the possibility of Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams returning, the Browns secondary may finally be back to full strength. If that is the case, this receiving corps will have a long day ahead of them.
