Round 2, Pick 46: Ashtyn Davis, S, California

Not only is just one offensive line spot locked down in the future, but neither of the safety spots is certain for the Browns in 2020 either. With that being said, the Browns take Cal standout Ashtyn Davis with their second-round pick in this mock draft.

Damarious Randall is a free agent after this season and wants paid like a top safety in the league; a price that Dorsey has not balked at to this point in negotiations. Opposite of Randall has been a complete mess for Steve Wilks and his defense as Jermaine Whitehead and Morgan Burnett have rotated in at that position.

Whitehead is nothing more than a band-aid to cover up a wound, while Burnett is a veteran leader on the back half of his career. Davis, or any early safety for that matter, is a necessity for the Browns to pursue next April; the Cal safety is a box safety who does not fear putting his nose close to the line of scrimmage, making him a weapon in Wilks’ scheme.

So far in the 2019 season, Davis has tallied 19 solo tackles, one interception, one forced fumble, and three passes defended. Here, he goes from a Golden Bear to a dawg as the Browns take him in the second round.
