Olivier Vernon: Buy

Stock Analysis: Olivier Vernon has been good for the Browns this season, but the casual observer may not truly notice his value. He isn’t putting up eye-popping numbers with only one sack and one tackle for loss on the season. Instead, he is flourishing doing the little things. Setting the edge, pressuring the quarterback, and playing well in run defense.

Defensive ends are appreciated for the ability to sack the quarterback, so it is no wonder Vernon’s impact isn’t truly appreciated thus far. Although he garners a low sack total, Vernon is the 20th ranked edge rusher, according to Pro Football Focus, with a grade of 76.4.

Vernon’s best game came last week against the Seattle Seahawks. Olivier has been solid in the run game, and if not for Myles Garrett having a defensive player of the year type campaign, he might be noticed a lot more.

Statistically one could argue that he needs to do a lot more to warrant his contract (owed $31M over the next two seasons), but Vernon has been effective. If he continues to stuff the run and pressure the quarterback as well as he has, the sacks will come and the defense will reap the benefits. Buy Olivier Vernon’s stock.
