Stay Disciplined

This is easier said than done for the Browns, as the truth is that penalties were part of what brought their doom in Week 6 against the Seahawks. Despite having one less flag against them than Seattle, the Browns have been one of the most penalized teams in the NFL this year, tied at No. 1 with the Atlanta Falcons.

The Browns have been undisciplined for most of the season, despite what head coach Freddie Kitchens preached during training camp and preseason. Cleveland plays with emotion, and this type of play can easily get in their heads, for better or for worse. When the Browns start hot, they can be one of the best teams in the league. However, the key to beating the New England Patriots in Week 8 is not a hot start, but consistency.

The Patriots are going to grind down each and every team they face this season. Like taxes and Tom Brady winning the Super Bowl, that is inevitable. Bill Belichick loves to slow the pace of his contests to a crawl and keep the other team’s morale at a low. That, along with his ability to take away a team’s best offensive weapon, has become one of his trademarks in recent years.

Cleveland has to stay out of their own heads in this one. Baker Mayfield might be able to get back to spreading the ball around, as Odell Beckham Jr. will likely be shut down for most of the game. Keeping a level head is important for Cleveland here, as weathering the Patriots’ defensive storm is perhaps the key to this game.
