Cleveland Browns studs and duds from Week 8 loss to Patriots
By Dan Justik
Dud: Nick Chubb
Nick Chubb had an impressive game against the best defense in football, rushing for 131 yards on only 20 carries, including his longest run of 44 yards. He showed once again showed his patient running style paired with his explosiveness makes him a dangerous weapon in the backfield.
However, Chubb could not have had a worse start to the game on Sunday, fumbling on his first two carries of the game, including one fumble being returned for a touchdown. The second fumble occurred on Chubb’s 44-yard carry.
Although Chubb was once again Cleveland’s most explosive player on offense, the two early fumbles put the Browns in a hole. The Patriots did not score points on the second fumble, but the Browns would have been in the red zone if Chubb does not fumble the football.
With the heavy rain being consistent for the entire game, Chubb was likely a large part of the game plan, and the Browns did not lose confidence in him even with the fumbles. However, the poor timing of both fumbles overshadowed his solid overall performance.
If Chubb does not have the two fumbles, Sunday could have been a much different outcome. But the fumbles put the Browns in bad positions early on and could not overcome the difficult circumstances.
