The Cleveland Browns gave Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi in the preseason, but he could not latch on. However, Sheehy-Guiseppi is still trying to get back to the NFL.

Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi, the formerly homeless wide receiver who become a national celebrity during summer camp, is still seeking an NFL career but does not seem to be having much luck. It might be that he is going about it the wrong way.

Sheehy-Guiseppi is the fellow who connived to get a tryout with the Browns by claiming to be a friend of Browns Vice President of Player Personnel, Alonzo HIghsmith. But the kid clocked a 4.38 40-yard dash and was forgiven for his deception.

The first time he touched the ball in the preseason, he ran a kick back for a touchdown and was mobbed by excited Browns teammates. He also caught three passes thrown his way in the preseason, showing that he has potential as a situational wide receiver as well. With the exception of a mishandled punt in the fourth preseason game, he clearly showed potential.

Sheehy-Guiseppi had been a star kick and punt returner at Phoenix College which is a two-year college. But after the 2016 season, he failed to get an offer from a major college and his college career was over. He was even homeless for a while, prior to catching on with the Browns last summer.

For time to time he surfaces on Twitter to declare his intention to continue to pursue his dream of making the NFL. His Twitter message of November 13 makes it sound as though he does not have a team at present, but he intends to pursue his dream somehow: ”They don’t know how bad I want it. I swear that I want it. They know I won’t stop till I get it.

His Instagram feed also contains a picture of him with Browns superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. It is clear that he was well liked by his teammates in Cleveland.

It sounds as though he could really benefit from an agent who could help him choose a path that leads to success. Based on what we know, the XFL did not draft him and the level of interest for a tryout is not known.

Similarly, the Canadian Football League may not pay much, but they seem like a very logical place for a young player to prove himself and get scouted by a few teams, hopefully including the Browns.

Fans of Sheehy-Guiseppi may be holding hopes that the Browns or another NFL team will come calling based on his YouTube footage, but that is probably not going to happen. No one will give him a job so he will have to find a way to take it. A good agent could help lay out a proactive plan to grab that second chance at the NFL. More than likely, there has to be an intermediate stop at a smaller, less glamorous league.

So here is hoping that we will see Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi again, possibly very soon as the 2020 NFL season. If he can show that he is not a fumbler, he could still get his chance in the NFL.

Right now his career path is broken, but with the right advisers, he can get back on track.  We all want to see him wearing brown and orange again, but some things have to happen first.
