Stud: Joe Schobert

Week after week, it gets said. John Dorsey needs to pay Joe Schobert. The 2017 NFL tackles leader is in the final year of his contract and keeps balling out. On Thursday, he was once again all over the field as the broadcasters in this one continued to call his name. On one series, he completely showed out.

The Steelers first drive in the third quarter started with Schobert stuffing Pittsburgh running back Jaylen Samuels for no gain. Just a few plays later, he again stepped up and got a big turnover for the Browns defense.

Mason Rudolph fired a deep one for Tevin Jones and Schobert read the play perfectly. He ended up stepping in front of the pass and got his first pick of the year. The offense wasn’t able to do anything with the pick, but it was just another example of the defense stepping up against the hated Steelers offense.

Thankfully for Cleveland, Schobert wasn’t done there. Following a frustrating series where Baker Mayfield missed an open OBJ on third-and-11, Schobert stepped up again. This time, Rudolph tried to go over the middle to his former college teammate James Washington but Schobert read his eyes and picked it off in the middle of the field.

The middle linebacker then ran it 20-yards down to the four-yard line, which set up a touchdown pass to Stephen Carlson as the rookie made his first career catch for a score, which put Cleveland up 21-7 with less than six minutes to go.

In all, he had 10 tackles, two for a loss, and a sack to go along with his two interceptions.
