Dud: Greedy Williams

The Cleveland Browns were hoping when Greedy Williams returned from his hamstring injury he would help make the defense difficult to throw on. Instead, Williams has been picked on by offenses and he is not helping himself.

Williams’ slight frame has been his biggest disadvantage, as receivers are able to stack him and box him out of making a play on the ball. Knowing this, Williams has been trying to stay attached to the body of the receiver, leaving him vulnerable to penalties. He has struggled to get his head around when the ball is in the air, causing him to be called for pass interference penalties.

Against the Dolphins, Williams was called for two penalties, both in the second half: one pass interference and one illegal use of hands. He also multiple easy catches after allowing the receiver to get inside leverage.

Williams finished the game with two tackles and one pass defensed. However, he has shown over the past several weeks that he needs to work on his technique because offenses are going to use his size against him. And if he abandons his technique like he has recently, then he will continue to be targeted and picked apart.
