Stud: Joe Schobert

Now that Myles Garrett is suspended for the rest of the 2019 season, it is clear that Joe Schobert is the defensive MVP for the Browns. He continued his impressive season Sunday against Miami, as he was once again all over the field making plays.

Schobert finished the game with five total tackles, four passes defensed, and two interceptions. Although he was not making as big of an impact with his tackling, he was outstanding in coverage all game.

Both of his interceptions came off deflections, but that should not discount his coverage in the middle of the field. Fitzpatrick was looking often in the middle of the field, but could not go to his safety valve because Schobert was there to make a play on the ball.

Schobert’s ability to be lockdown in coverage in the middle of the field while also improving his tackling and making plays at the line of scrimmage has made him an invaluable member of Cleveland’s defense.

Without his presence in the middle of the defense, the Browns surely would have been picked apart more with the amount of players missing from the unit. But because of Schobert’s versatility, the Dolphins were limited in what they could do against the Cleveland defense.
