Beavercreek Browns Backers headquarters at Tuty’s Bar and Grill co-sponsors a free Thanksgiving dinner, Thanksgiving Day, 2019, as it has done for the several years on a row.  This does not seem possible.  How can a self-respecting business give away a free dinner to anyone who wants to?

Owner Matt Baker explains it this way:   “First of all, I’m grateful for Browns fans who have supported my business all these years, especially when the team struggled so much.  Wow, it was  tough for a while, so this our way to show gratitude.  Also, this is a military town only a mile from the largest Air Force base in the world.  Many young men and women cannot be with their families today because they are serving their country. So if we can provide a friendly environment where they can hang out with other fans on what could otherwise be a lonely holiday, we’re happy to do it.  Browns fans are like an extended family”

It is a Browns-o-centric place, but I can testify that patrons have walked in wearing Steelers jerseys and lived to tell about it. It really is a friendly place for fans of other teams, and especially on Thanksgiving, everybody seems to get along.

The Thanksgiving dinner consists of all the traditional foods including turkeys with stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and all the other goodies.   And of course there is football.

Back in the day, the Detroit Lions were the ony team to play on Thanksgiving, so for one day everybody would root for the Lions.  This year, they are starting rookie third string quarterback David Blough, who was on the Browns’ roster this summer and impressed the coaching staff, but was traded to the Lions for a third day draft pick.  It will be interesting to see if they can beat the Chicago Bears.  Many fans thought the Browns erred by drafting Myles Garrett rather than MItchell Trubisky.  Even though Garrett is currently suspended, not many Browns fans are still longing for Trubisky.

1966 was the first Cowboys game on Thanksgiving, against your Cleveland Browns.  They have continued that tradition ever since, and will be hosting the 8-3 Buffalo Bills at 430.  There is some theoretical chance that the Bills and Browns could be competing for the second Wild Card spot, and the Browns own the head-to-head tiebreaker by virtue of beating them 19-16.   so perhaps Browns fans can root for the

The late game is New Orleans and Atlanta, which has almost no significance for the Browns unless you are worried about who they might play in the Super Bowl.  That is rather far-fetched for a team that is 5-6, but like Yogi Berra used to say, it ain’t over until it’s over.   Beavercreek Browns Backers will be watching anyway, among friends and full of turkey as it should be.
