When sports celebrities are involved, it’s difficult to disconnect the on-field persona with the human being who is in a fight for his life. It doesn’t matter what you think of him as a player at Ohio State or the NFL. Nor does it matter what exactly happened. What matters now is Mr. Pryor’s well-being.

Many Cleveland fans love Pryor for his spectacular 2016 season in which he was able to make the difficult transition from quarterback to wide receiver. Were it not for Pryor, the Browns would surely have gone 0-16. As it was, they went 1-15.

But he was also famous for trash talking and blow-ups on the sideline complaining about the play calls of coach Hue Jackson and poor performance of the other players, especially the offensive line. However, when your team is 1-15, and quarterbacks are getting injured every game, perhaps it is not entirely bad if someone on the team is upset about it. Face it, Pryor was right much of the time.

Ridiculously, Hue seemed to be sympathetic to Adam “Pacman” Jones of division rival Cincinnati, who complained about Pryor’s trash-talking, perhaps because Pryor was giving Hue an earful every week too. Maybe it was bad for the team, but for us fans, Pryor expressed a lot of the frustration that we were feeling with the coach and the team.

The Browns let Pryor walk after the season, despite the fact that he had over 1,000 receiving yards (he also made a cameo appearance at quarterback as the Browns’ decrepit offensive line allowed all the other quarterbacks to go out with injuries.

But not to worry, Sash Brown replaced Pryor with the immortal Kenny Britt. However, Britt was cut by John Dorsey on Dorsey’s first day on the job as general manager of the Browns.

However, Pryor was never able to come close to star level again in stints with Washington, Buffalo, and the New York Jets.

Right now, what matters most is not the football player, but the man who has been seriously hurt. Prayers and well-wishes are needed.
