5 Coaching Candidates if Cleveland Browns move on from Freddie Kitchens
1. Mike McCarthy
Spoiler alert: Mike McCarthy is the only coach on this list to win a Super Bowl as a head coach (someone on the list won one as a player) so it’s appropriate that he’s first. McCarthy said he was taking this year off from coaching to recharge and come back in 2020.
He was fired by the Green Bay Packers after week 13 last season after it was clear that they weren’t going to make the playoffs. The Packers felt they needed a different voice and that happens when you’ve had the same voice for 13 years.

He’s still a highly sought after coach especially an offensive coach like him. McCarthy spent six years as an offensive coordinator in the NFL before landing the Packers job. In his 19 combined seasons as a coach or coordinator McCarthy’s team was top ten in scoring 11 times. He knows how to put points on the board although his system looked a little outdated last season.
But the Browns have had problems scoring points this season, they rank 21st in points scored. With this much talent on offense, McCarthy will find a way to score and probably score a lot.
The biggest question would be can he get the ear of the leaders on this football team so they can help give him some credibility. Players like Jarvis Landry, Joel Bitonio and Joe Schobert. He had trouble connecting with Aaron Rodgers and that is what led to him being fired in Green Bay.
The Browns have an explosive group of personalities on the team and McCarthy would need the help of those players to keep things under control. If he could accomplish that McCarthy can turn the Browns into a top ten offense.
