5 Coaching Candidates if Cleveland Browns move on from Freddie Kitchens
5. Greg Roman
This would be an impactful hire in several ways because Roman is the offensive mastermind behind the Baltimore Ravens who have the best offense in the league.
Roman has been an offensive coordinator for 11 years and has been coaching for 24 years mostly on the offensive side of the ball. He has had great success as an offensive coordinator and has turned Lamar Jackson into possibly the MVP of the league.
He also has Super Bowl experience, he was the offensive coordinator for the 49ers in 2012 when they lost to the Ravens, ironically.
Roman’s specialty is creating plays in the running game which would work extremely well for the Browns especially if the can sign Kareem Hunt to a long term deal to pair him with Nick Chubb.
He was the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills in 2015 and 2016 and they led the league in rushing both years. He has coached a top ten rushing offense all seven years he has been an offensive coordinator. If you give him two all-pro caliber running backs and there is no limit to what this offense can be.
Roman has transformed the Ravens offense this year, they rank first in points scored and second in total yards, last year they ranked 13th in points and ninth in yards.
Hiring Roman would make the Browns offense better and it would probably weaken the Ravens offense because Roman helped Lamar Jackson unlock his passing attack because he can already run like nobody else.
Roman is the best candidate for this job because of what he can do with this offense. Playing in Cleveland you have to be able to run the ball and that should be the identity of the Browns led by Chubb and Hunt. There’s no doubt Roman would turn Cleveland into a rushing juggernaut.
