4. Matt Rhule, Baylor University

Matt Rhule should probably already be an NFL head coach. In fact, the New York Jets all but had Rhule hired last offseason, but a last-minute detail in the contract didn’t sit well with Rhule.

The Jets wanted to hire Rhule but weren’t going to allow him to hire his own staff. Rhule didn’t agree with a “fixed marriage,” and decided to go back to Baylor.

That decision ended up paying off, as Rhule led Baylor to their first-ever Big 12 Conference Championship Game in school history this season. Baylor matched up against the Oklahoma Sooners, the only team that had beaten them to that point this season.

Oklahoma held off the late comeback and won in overtime, thus eliminating Matt Rhule and his Baylor Bears from their chances at making the College Football Playoff.

Rhule is the true definition of a player’s coach, who loves his players and does whatever he can to put them in the best position to win. He’s also known as a program builder.

When Rhule got his first head coaching job at Temple University, he went 2-10 in his first season but had the team to 10 wins in each of his last two seasons there.

Rhule took over the Baylor job following the downfall of the program from the Art Briles scandal and went just 1-11 in his first season. Since then, however, he has led the program to 18 wins and just 8 losses.

Matt Rhule’s teams are always very well disciplined and don’t make many mistakes. He and his coaching staff always find a way to scheme to get the best out of the matchups on the field and exploit them to their advantage.

With both of these being issues that have plagued the Browns in 2019, hiring Rhule and allowing him to bring in guys he trusts to coach with him would likely greatly improve the Browns fortunes all around in 2020.
