The Cleveland Browns and John Dorsey want to ensure that they don’t neglect the offensive line as they did prior to the 2019 season, so for the second straight pick, they go with a strong offensive lineman. This time, they select Calvin Throckmorton out of Oregon.

Throckmorton has played both offensive tackle positions for the Ducks, but seemed to play his best at right tackle. Regardless of where he plays in the NFL, he’s an improvement over the current list of players at both positions on the Browns active roster.

While Greg Robinson played well down the stretch in 2018, his 2019 performance leaves something to be desired. Throckmorton will likely take over for Chris Hubbard at right tackle, however, who is one of the lowest graded tackles in the NFL this season according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required).

As previously stated, the offensive tackle free agency class will have some good players in it, and it’s very likely the Browns are able to get at least one potential starter out of the group of available players. Drafting Throckmorton here, however, will be insurance to help ensure that the poor play of the tackles in 2019 doesn’t continue into 2020 and beyond.
