4. Baylor head coach Matt Rhule

Matt Rhule could have been in the NFL in 2019 with the New York Jets, but he backed out of the job because the organization wanted to pick his coaching staff for him instead of allowing him to pick his staff. But this offseason, Rhule will likely have much better opportunities than last season.

Rhule has been a head coach at Temple and now Baylor. In both stops, Rhule has turned the programs around and made them contenders in their divisions. Rhule’s work with Baylor has been nothing short of amazing considering the death-penalty seemed like a possibility for Baylor’s football program right before Rhule took over.

Rhule turned a 1-11 Baylor team in his first into an 11-2 team and a top-10 team just two seasons later. He knows how to build a program and have players buy into his leadership. He also has experience on both sides of the ball as a coach. Baylor boasted a top scoring offense in 2019 and was an explosive unit in general.

Baylor may not be the most talented team, but Rhule was able to develop the players and make them work well as a unit. It is clear he knows how to connect with the players to get the best out of them and turn it into success on the field.

After what happened to him last offseason, Rhule said it will take an opportunity that is “next to perfect” for him to leave Baylor. He is going to be careful with his next job, so it could be difficult to get him to leave Baylor. But with the Browns needing someone who can implement a program and can develop talent, Rhule should be one of their top candidates.
