Gregg Williams, former interim head coach

Yes, this one may sound like it’s out of left field, but is it really? Gregg Williams took over as the interim head coach for the Browns after Hue Jackson was fired and things changed instantly. The offense improved, the defense improved, and the discipline — more so than anything — improved.

Was Williams a little — um, eccentric? Yes. But he was also 5-3 with the team and was a big part of the reason Freddie Kitchens was named head coach this offseason.

This year, Williams has served as the defensive coordinator of the New York Jets. He’s had his share of tough outings for sure but has also seen his team hold the Steelers to 10 points and the Raiders to three during the final stretch of the season.

It might be easy to scoff at that, but those were two teams in the playoff race when New York faced them. They’ve shown improvement throughout the season and the players there seem to love Williams.

Of course, this one still seems to be too much of a long shot. Williams was likely upset that John Dorsey didn’t hire him and there was obviously something that kept Cleveland from keeping him after the success he had.

Although, it would be hard to say he couldn’t do a better job than his former interim offensive coordinator has.
