Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman

The Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson took the NFL by storm this season with their incredibly explosive offense. Greg Roman was the man who overhauled Baltimore’s offense last offseason to make it the offensive juggernaut it was in 2019.

The 47-year-old has been with the Baltimore Ravens since 2017, but 2019 was his first season as the team’s offensive coordinator. In his one season as the play-caller, Roman led the top scoring offense in the NFL and the second-best offense. Baltimore had the top rushing offense and was the first team to average 200 yards a game since the 1970’s.

Roman has been an NFL offensive coordinator for seven seasons, including four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers during the Colin Kaepernick-era. Much like he has done with the Ravens, Roman tailored his offense to fit the ability of his personnel, which helped the offense thrive.

Other than being an offensive coordinator, Roman has been an offensive line assistant, quarterbacks coach, and tight ends coach in the NFL. In 2018, he was the Ravens’ assistant head coach.

Roman’s work with the Ravens offense and making Lamar Jackson the likely 2019 MVP is going to make him a candidate for several head coach openings. How he tailors his offense to his personnel should make him an attractive option as the NFL continues to look for the best offensive minds.

The Browns interviewed Roman Thursday, January 2.
