2. Josh McDaniels, New England Patriots Offensive Coordinator

There’s probably no name on the Cleveland Browns coaching list that incites more debate than Josh McDaniels. The positives around him include his ability to call a great game offensively.

He’s also had a great reputation for working with quarterbacks — which of course is aided by working with Tom Brady — and has always gotten the most out of his talent.

As for the negatives, his previous head coaching gig didn’t pan out very well. He was hired by the Denver Broncos in 2009 and was off to a great 6-2 start and even beat his former team, the Patriots. Then, the team limped to an 8-8 finish and McDaniels was fired following a 3-9 stint.

He eventually made his way back to New England and rebuilt his reputation — before destroying it again. McDaniels was named head coach in 2018 of the Indianapolis Colts but backed out before his first press conference. There were clearly reasons behind the scenes but McDaniels never explained and took a hit for this.

Even with that red flag, there are teams ready to give him another shot and McDaniels is reportedly ready to try his hand at being a head coach again. For the second season in a row, he’s said to be a favorite of co-owner Dee Haslam which keeps him in the running.
