The Browns had the left tackle position locked down for a long time. Back in 2007, they added Joe Thomas from Wisconsin and the No. 3 overall pick manned the position for the next 10,363 consecutive snaps.

Thomas made 10 Pro Bowls and was a seven-time First-Team All-Pro and twice named to the Second-Team All-Pro. His career ended with a triceps injury and he decided it was time to hang up the cleats.

After he left, the Browns failed to adequately replace him. In what was easily John Dorseys biggest draft flub, the general manager ignored the left tackle and with the 33rd overall pick in 2018, he added Austin Corbett, who projected as a guard — and is already off the team.

Rather than using that pick — or any other — on a left tackle, Cleveland tried an undrafted rookie in Desmond Harrison. When he didn’t pan out, they turned to Greg Robinson, the former No. 2 overall pick who had never lived up to his status.

Robinson was a pleasant surprise in 2018, which led to him receiving a one-year deal in 2019. His play declined significantly, but that could be true of everyone as head coach Freddie Kitchens made things more difficult than they needed to be.

Still, Cleveland would be best served to let Robinson walk in free agency and either use an early draft pick or find a starter in free agency to take over.
