No. 7: Paul Kruger (2014)

Veteran linebacker Paul Kruger was a key piece on defense for the Browns when they went 7-9 in 2014. A leader and one of the team’s big free agency acquisitions a season prior, he lived up to his hype. Kruger racked up 11 sacks, 4 passes defended, 4 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 53 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and 17 QB hits in 2014 for the Cleveland Browns that year.

Kruger’s tenure with the Browns would be short, as he would only be on the team for three years. However, in 2014 the Browns got a good return on their investment in the former division rival and Super Bowl champion.

Kruger’s 11 sacks in 2014 ranks second for the entire 2010’s decade for the Browns, with only 2018 Myles Garrett ahead of him, who had 13.5 sacks in his second season in the NFL. The 11 sacks that season also ties him for third since the Browns returned to the NFL in 1999.

The Browns have been a franchise without many elite pass rushers over the past 20 years, and Paul Kruger helped fill that gap for one season in 2014. He only played one more season in Cleveland following that and was out of the NFL following a year in New Orleans, but 2014 was a year to remember.
