4. Joe Bachie, ILB, Michigan State

The Cleveland Browns are facing the very real likelihood that the Joe Schobert will be playing somewhere else next season. Even if the new regime has a different opinion on the quarterback of the Browns defense, injuries quickly exposed the team’s lack of depth at both inside and outside linebacker spots.

Michigan State’s Joe Bachie is the type of talent and mind that can step in and be an instant starter in almost any defense and scheme. A gifted tackler, Bachie has an incredible nose for the ball and can easily dissect and diagnose plays on the fly.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

He was the only bright spot in the Spartans blowout loss to Ohio State as he spent so much time in the Buckeyes backfield in the first 15 minutes that he could have been another running back.

While he should’ve been a second-round pick at worst, Bachie tested positive for a banned performance-enhancing substance and was suspended the rest of the year.

He was well on his way to his third straight year of at least a hundred tackles. While this isn’t something teams should be overly worried about at the next level, it has considerably hurt his draft stock.

There’s little question in my mind as to how effective Joe Bachie can be at the next level, there are some mixed feelings on when to draft him. Does a team reach and grab him late in the second or early in the third or do we see Bachie drop passed the third round to the fourth or fifth?

I think the answer is different for each team and if the Browns feel they’ve addressed the pressing issues at tackle and safety, Bachie is the pick to make if he’s on the board in the third.
