5. Matthew Wilkerson, TE, Edward Waters College

The Cleveland Browns offense, assuming coach Kevin Stefanski runs a similar style offense to what worked for him in Minnesota, desperately needs a consistent tight end with good hands and blocking skills. Current starter David Njoku has been inconsistent at best.

While he has shown flashes of greatness, it would not shock anyone around the team if they made a move, or moves, to upgrade the position. Of the options available via NFL Draft, the most interesting to me in terms of value versus cost is Matthew Wilkerson of Edwards Waters College.

EWC is an NIAI affiliated historically black college in the Golf Coast Athletic Conference and despite a difficult 1-10 season in his senior year, the 6-6 and 270 lbs. Wilkerson impressed scouts with his athleticism, speed, and the fact he played both ways as EWC’s tight-end and defensive end.

While the may be more polished talents available, Wilkerson has to potential to be a future all-pro. With his raw size and talent, the rights coaches and scheme could turn the Citra, FL native and ASA Miami Junior College transfer could become an Antonio Gates-type find.

Here’s to hoping the Cleveland Browns take a late-round flyer on this incredible talent. I believe if given the opportunity Matthew Wilkerson could be the steal of the 2020 NFL Draft.
