Round 3, Pick 78: Alton Robinson, EDGE

With the pick landed from the Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland winds up drafting Syracuse defensive end, Alton Robinson. While he’s not exactly a product of a great football hotbed, Robinson is a talented prospect who really stood out at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.

While it’s true the offensive line for the South team was atrocious, Robinson should be lauded for his ability to play in their backfield the entire game. He finished with two sacks on the afternoon and a fumble recovery, but there were many other plays where he was causing problems for players such as Jalen Hurts.

Cleveland won’t be asking Robinson to start as a rookie, that will be the task for Myles Garrett and Olivier Vernon. What he will do though, is give them a capable reserve at a position that was weakened throughout the 2019 season.

A suspension to Myles Garrett and continual knee problems for Vernon put Cleveland in a bad way as they had to rely on guys such as Porter Gustin and Bryan Cox to play significant minutes down the stretch.

Robinson is an upgrade there and he could not only fill in as a starter for Vernon, should the injuries continue, but he also has all the tools to develop into a starter down the road.
