Round 3, Pick 90: Shane Lemieux, IOL, Oregon

This was the pick the Browns landed in the trade with the Houston Texans where they surrendered running back Duke Johnson. Originally a fourth-round selection, the pick improved to a third-rounder when Johnson suited up for 10 games with the Texans. That ended up being great compensation for a third-string running back, which is what Duke was at the time in Cleveland.

With the pick acquired for Duke, they end up bolstering the interior of their offensive line. While that hasn’t been as big of a sore spot as tackle, the Browns do need someone who can step up and fill the starting right guard role. They hope Oregon’s Shane Lemieux can do exactly that.

Right now, the Browns have a few players who will be fighting for that spot. Wyatt Teller, Eric Kush, and Justin McCray all took snaps there. They also have Drew Forbes, but for some reason, they never let the 2019 rookie get any snaps. Without knowing what he can offer, they have to find someone who can step in and play for them now.

Should Lemieux end up developing into a starter, this will make the trade that John Dorsey made with Houston look even better — especially considering Johnson was making it so clear that he wasn’t coming back to Cleveland.
