Round 6, Pick 167: Justin Strnad, LB, Wake Forest

The trades are officially done now as the Browns have only one pick left in this draft after making their selection at No. 167. With that pick, they get some more beef for their linebacking corps with Justin Strnad out of Wake Forest.

More from Browns Draft

After the last offseason, it seems as though Cleveland shouldn’t need any linebackers. Already armed with Christian Kirksey and Joe Schobert, John Dorsey went out and signed Adarius Taylor and then drafted Sione Takitaki in the third-round and Mack Wilson in the fifth. However, things are already looking a little different.

Kirksey missed more time with an injury and his high salary makes him a candidate to be cut in 2020. There’s also the contract situation of Schobert, who is a free agent and it seemed as though re-signing him was not a priority. Hopefully, with a new regime, that will change.

Either way, it seems as though at least one Cleveland linebacker is going to be looking elsewhere for work which means they will need to add some depth. Strnad can offer that and has the potential to be more than just a reserve.

He proved during his time with Wake Forest that he could dissect what the offense was doing and had no problem getting amped up. He’s also solid in pass-rushing which will help the Browns who have struggled for years trying to cover opposing tight ends.
