Another free agent with ties to Joe Woods is defensive lineman Derek Wolfe. Like the aforementioned Chris Harris, Wolfe has spent his entire career with the Denver Broncos and will be 30-years old this season. He also worked under Woods, even though the new Cleveland coordinator was not his position coach during their Super Bowl win.

However, Wolfe did work with Woods in 2017 and 2018 while Woods was the defensive coordinator. Denver didn’t have the same dominant defense they were used to during that stretch but with their questions under center and at head coach, it likely wasn’t on Woods.

Wolfe is also still making plays despite nearing 30, recording seven sacks this past season. As for the Browns, they have a need as they were pretty inconsistent and lacked depth along the defensive line this past season. The main question is whether Wolfe and Woods are wanting to reunite.

During his two seasons with Woods calling plays, Wolfe was very effective in playing defensive end. However, he didn’t register many sacks at all, with just 3.5 coming this past season. Even with that being the case, the free-agent might prefer to play for someone who he already knows — and who knows him as well.
