4. T.J. Carrie, Cornerback

Another big signing that came during John Dorsey’s tenure was the addition of T.J. Carrie from the Oakland Raiders. Carrie is a decent slot cornerback and has had his share of good games for the Browns. However, he’s also had his share of clunkers as well.

That’s not what you expect from a player who was given a four-year, $31 million contract in 2018. Carrie was added as part of a massive secondary overhaul that Dorsey undertook. They traded Jason McCourty and Jamar Taylor and ended up trading for safety Damarious Randall as well as signing Carrie and Terrance Mitchell.

Dorsey wasn’t done there as he also used the No. 4 overall pick in the draft on Denzel Ward from Ohio State. Ward proved to be a good player and made the Pro Bowl, but was still a controversial pick once it was announced as edge rusher Bradley Chubb was also on the board and considered the superior prospect by most scouting experts and pundits.

It seemed to work at first as the Browns secondary was much better in 2018 but they took a step back in 2019. That could cause Andrew Berry to look at the contracts of several of those defensive backs and the $8.1 million Carrie is due could lead to his dismissal.
