Grading Cleveland Browns position groups before free agency and draft
By Clay Goodwin
Running backs: A+
The running backs room is probably the best position group on the team for the Browns. The tandem of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt is one of, if not the best in the entire NFL. Hunt won the NFL rushing title in 2017 and Chubb was second in the rushing title race last season.
Both running backs are fully capable of taking over games. They are work horse style running backs who can have 25 carries a game. Chubb is serviceable in the passing game, but Hunt can be a true difference maker catching the football. He is an excellent checkdown that Mayfield and the Browns need to utilize more this coming season.
Hunt and Chubb complement each other very well. They can both play on the field at the same time and are very effective when playing in such packages. Both players should have been given more carries last season because they were truly the most stable and constant success for the offense.
With new head coach Kevin Sefanski coming in, the backs will likely get more carries. Stefanski coached the running back who had one of the biggest turnarounds, Dalvin Cook. With the likely addition of a newly constructed offensive line as well, the offense will be run through Chubb and Hunt.
Cleveland is very fortunate to have such an electric backfield. They are a true building block for this team. A+ position.
