Round 4, Pick 105: Brandon Jones, Safety, Texas

Cleveland again looks to rebuild its defensive backfield in the fourth round. With this pick, they select, Brandon Jones from Texas. Jones’ strength is tackling and he loves to make plays on the ball. He can fill the Browns’ strong safety role and play in the box when needed.

He played all four years at Texas and made big plays for them. He’s an aggressive tackler who stays square and rarely misses.

Not only can he defend the run, but he’s also a solid player in the middle of the field. He reads the quarterback well and does his job, keeping receivers in front of him. Not a true ballhawk, but does well enough in coverage.

If the Browns go cover two, Jones will have no problem covering his half of the field. But again, he really excels closer to the line of scrimmage.

For a safety, he is very good at shedding blocks. He can look through the backfield and find the ball carrier, engage the blocker, and shed the block to make the play. If he can make plays on the ball carrier near the line of scrimmage for the Browns, the defense would become immediately much better.
