Round 3, Pick 74: Troy Dye, LB, Oregon

Recently, the news broke that the Cleveland Browns are going to be moving on from Joe Schobert. Their former Pro Bowl middle linebacker is a fan-favorite but the front office apparently didn’t feel the same. While they did like him, general manager Andrew Berry is unwilling to give him the contract he desired — which was north of $10 million.

Now, there’s also a chance Christian Kirksey could be gone as well considering he already has a high price tag and they could save a lot of money cutting him. Not only this, but Kirksey has struggled to stay on the field, being absent from nine games in 2018 and 14 this past season. Kirksey is always good when he’s on the field but that doesn’t matter if he can’t stay healthy.

With that being the case, the Browns target a new linebacker here as they grab Troy Dye from Clemson. A four-year starter for the Ducks, Dye had 391 tackles, 13 sacks, and five interceptions in his career.

He joins a young group in Mack Wilson and Sione Takitaki who were both added in the 2019 NFL Draft. They both have work to do but the Browns are willing to give their youth a try as they hope to improve a struggling defense while also saving money.
