Cleveland Browns: 5 free agents the Browns should target
By Clay Goodwin
3. Justin Simmons, safety
Another safety that the Browns should keep an eye on is Justin Simmons of the Denver Broncos. Simmons has been linked to the Browns because of his ties with new defensive coordinator Joe Woods and their time together in Denver.
Woods was Simmons coach in Denver as he was the Broncos’ defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator for a few years. Their connection is a reason why the Browns may take another look at Simmons to join Woods in Cleveland.
Simmons is another proven player that can add immediate talent to a depleted Browns safety room. The issue here could be that Broncos’ GM John Elway has stated he is going to franchise tag Simmons which would not allow him to walk in free agency.
If that is indeed the case, the Browns would either have to find another player or trade for Simmons. This is tough to analyze because it is hard to know the trade value Denver is looking for. If it is on the cheaper side, Simmons could surely be worth a look.
If the Browns do indeed have a chance to bring in Simmons, look for Woods to be a major reason why the Browns will consider him going forward.
