Popularity with the fans

Christian Kirksey is beloved by nearly all of the Dawg Pound. Outside of the couch GMs, just about every fan in northeast Ohio wanted to see him back healthy.

Small markets such as Cleveland have a different type of love for their teams’ players. If you’re committed to the team’s success, you instantly become a local. Win, lose or draw, they’ll always have your back.

Kirksey’s career with the Browns mirrored Joe Thomas in the sense of being loyal to the team and embracing the city even though the Browns never reached the playoffs during his tenure. Fans wanted both men to experience winning when the Browns finally became a consistent winner. It was as if people were rooting for their uncle or cousin; they were a part of the family.

If you want a glimpse of what Kirksey meant to Browns fans, look at the comments on his Instagram and Twitter farewell posts. Well wishes for his future and an abundance of appreciation for his time in Cleveland.

This release was expected so a lot of teams are expected to have interest in Kirksey. He will forever have that dog in him and maybe he’ll retire as a member of the Browns one day.

Best of luck Christian Kirksey. Dawg check.
