5 Best Cleveland Browns seventh-round picks since 1999

2. Alex Hall, LB, 2008
Coming in at No. 2 overall is Alex Hall, a linebacker taken at No. 231 overall back in 2008. Hall played for a small college in Raleigh, North Carolina known as St. Augustine’s University. There aren’t many NFL players from this school but Hall made the cut and while he didn’t have the longest or most succesful career, he did have talent.
That was on display right away as Hall played in 16 games as a rookie and had two starts for the Browns. He also showed an immense amount of potential in that season, recording 28 tackles, three sacks, three tackles for a loss, and two forced fumbles.
The 6-foot-4, 250-pound Hall did well in a pass-rushing linebacker role but in 2009 he seemed to fall out of favor with the staff. Romeo Crennel was fired and replaced by Eric Mangini and Hall went from a frequently used reserve to someone who hardly saw the field. In his second campaign in the NFL, he appeared in 14 games but had just 10 tackles. He was then traded ahead of the 2010 season along with a fourth and fifth-round pick for linebacker Chris Gocong and cornerback Sheldon Brown.
Hall never made the Eagles roster and was claimed by the New York Giants once he was waived. After making one tackle in two games, he was on the move again. Hall never played in the NFL again during the regular season but still had enough talent to keep getting a shot.
The Arizona Cardinals gave him a tryout and then he went back to the Giants once he was released there. Hall then headed north to play for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL for two seasons and the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2013. He returned to the Roughriders in 2015 after being unable to make the Carolina Panthers roster, as he was there in the 2014 offseason.
